This is so because a 1-1/4-inch hitch would not have the strength required for use on the back of a camper trailer. With hitch accessories weight capacities are decreased on RV's and campers because the suspension is more rough and has more chance of being bounced around. This rack is designed to maximize space behind an RV and minimize damage from road debris and wind by placing the bikes fully behind the RV while its in motion. I don't recommend mounting the bikes horizontally on this rack as the bikes could stick out past the side of the RV into the next lane of traffic and become a hazard for other drivers.

Curt RV hitches # C19101 and # E-100 will not work on a C-channel bumper so you may want to consider a frame-mounted RV hitch like # 13703 or one of the others shown on the linked page. These have a 2-inch receiver opening for your bike rack or other RV-rated accessory and the various model fits varying frame widths; some are bolt-on while others are weld-on products.
